Josh Jennings is a sought after percussion artist, clinician and educator based in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. Currently he performs and teaches all forms of music specializing in Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Caribbean, Polynesian, Latin/Jazz, concert marimba and marching styles. He is constantly traveling abroad in an effort to continue his international education. Josh regularly visits Brazil, Japan, Tahiti, Taiwan and Thailand to study indigenous music with native musicians. Throughout his career Josh has performed with such artists as Keiko Abe, Alex Acuña, Gregg Bissonette, Luis Conte, Lalo Davila, Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, Russ Miller, Andy Narell, Ney Rosauro, Steve Smith, Michael Spiro, Derico Watson, Paul Wertico, Sesame Flyers Steel Orchestra of Brooklyn, NY, Rio Maracatu Percussion group from Rio de Janeiro and the Papetoai Village music group of Moorea, Tahiti. Josh served as designer and performed as an inaugural member of the Cutting Edge Drummers for the Cutting Edge Haunted House in Ft. Worth, TX in 2005 and 2006. Josh was also the percussion coordinator and performer for the NHL Dallas Stars 2006-2007 season.
Currently Josh serves as a drumline, Afro-Brazilian ensemble director and private instructor at several schools in the Dallas area including Marcus High School and Newman Smith High School. His collegiate instruction is with the University of Texas at Arlington where he works with the marching band and Brazilian Ensemble. Josh also presents various clinics and has served as a guest percussion artist at schools and universities around the world such as Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand, the University of North Texas, Western State College in Colorado, Tennessee Tech University, the University of Tennessee Knoxville, University of Texas in Arlington, University of Virginia and Texas State University. Josh has also served as a clinician and an adjudicator for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Thailand Drumline contests in Bangkok, Thailand. He has served as a guest artist for the 60th and 61st Midwest Band and Orchestra Conferences in Chicago, IL. Presently, Josh is an active member of the Dallas/Ft. Worth musical scene as an in-demand performer with such groups as the Eymard Furtado Group, Ed Smith Latin Jazz Trio, Stone Savage Jazz Band, Nina Katrina, Te Toa Tahitian Drum Group, Sweet Steel, Brahmah, and the Grace Hula Dance company.
Josh holds Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Performance degrees from the famed University of North Texas percussion program. While at UNT, he performed with the Indoor Drumline, winning two PASIC national drumline titles in 1998 and 2000. Josh also spent several years performing and touring with the Steel Band, Afro-Cuban Ensemble, Brazilian Ensemble, Graduate Percussion Ensemble, Latin Jazz, Gamelan Ensemble, Jazz Repertory Ensemble and the Symphonic Band amongst others at UNT. His teachers included José Aponte, Christopher Deane, Ron Fink, Mark Ford, Paul Rennick, Dr. Robert Schietroma, Ed Smith, Ed Soph and Poovalur Sriji.
Josh began studying percussion under the instruction of Kennan Wylie and performed with the drumline, percussion ensemble, Brazilian ensemble, steel band and wind bands at Marcus High School in his home town of Flower Mound, TX. While at Marcus, he received a number of honors and awards, including three PASIC national drumline titles, 1st and 2nd place titles in the PASIC individuals keyboard competition. He also began the first of his six years marching with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps in 1997. During his career with the Scouts Josh received numerous awards including Drum Corps International's Best Percussion Ensemble in 1999 and Best Individual Keyboard Solo in 2000. Josh also received the Avant Garde scholarship for highest percussion score in the DCI Individual and Ensemble contest that year and was featured in the 25th Anniversary issue of Modern Drummer.
