Russian-born cello virtuoso Yuri Anshelevich made his recital debut at the age of 9, and five years later earned acceptance at the famed Moscow State Conservatory.  That same year he won First Prize in the Cello Division of the All-Russian Competition, which led to studies with world-famous cellist Mstislav Rostropovich.  Currently serving as Associate Principal Cello with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra since May of 1977, he has served on the faculty of Southern Methodist University and as artist-in-residence at the University of Dallas.  Active as both a soloist and chamber musician, Mr. Anshelevich has won wide critical acclaim for his concert and recital performances.  He has performed concertos by Shostakovich, Elgar, Schumann, Boccherini and Milhaud as well as Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations and Beethoven’s “Triple” Concerto. He also has performed chamber music with such classical music stars as Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman and Ralph Kirshbaum. For three consecutive years beginning in 1996, he was the featured recitalist for the Fine Arts Chamber Players’ Basically Beethoven summer concert series. Mr. Anshelevich performs on a rare Andreas Guarnerius cello.
