The Institute for Strings exists to prepare dedicated, hard-working students for the performing experience. Its programs give young players an opportunity to work closely with experienced, dedicated coaches to develop the interactive skills and technical discipline that chamber music demands. The sessions offer chamber music study and performance, sonata class for selected participants, master classes and solo performance opportunities, large ensemble and musicians’ chorus, and speakers on interdisciplinary activities related to performance.
TIFS Announcement (6/21/10):
Students at The Institute for Strings completed the summer session with four magnificent concerts. We were pleased to have Sergiu Luca as our Guest Master Teacher during the session. The students learned a lot from Sergiu and he was pleased with the level of talent at TIFS.
"The level of the kids I heard was impressive, but what impressed me as much as anything is the "esprit de corps" I sensed amongst the participants and the usually varied curriculum that gave these kids a much broader musical experience than the standard Summer Music Camp.” – Sergiu Luca
TIFS Announcement (5/25/10):
A Master Class with James Ehnes, considered by some to be "the Jascha Heifetz of our day", was held on May 1, 2010, in conjunction with his appearance with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Students and parents gained invaluable insight from Mr. Ehnes during the two hour session. Mr. Ehnes' playing was extraordinary and his teaching insights were priceless. He is pictured with Christine Wu, Jordan Lee, and Ruth Chang - participants of the Master Class.
